Halloween Guide for Families in Johns Creek GA

Glowing jack-o-lantern

Halloween is right around the corner and rather than wait to the last second to figure out what events are going on around Johns Creek, GA, we wanted to put something together to help families learn about what is happening.

Of course, we’re a pediatric dentist office in Alpharetta, so we’re going to give some tips on how to keep your kids’ teeth healthy this spooky season!

1. Fall Family Festival – City of Johns Creek

Date: Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018
Time: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Location: Newtown Park
Cost: Free
Event Page: https://www.johnscreekga.gov/RecreationandParks/Special-Events/Fall-Family-Festival

The Fall Family Festival is hosted by the city of Johns Creek and is held at Newton Park. The festival has been held for many years and is a great event for local families to take part in. The event is free and will have many vendors where kids can play different games.

The festival does not have any major Halloween overtones, so it’s perfect for those families that do not celebrate Halloween.

There will be a costume contest held for kids 12 and under. Those who want to participate will need to arrive by noon. The weather forecast for the day is estimating temperatures of 68 degrees, so it shouldn’t be too hot or cold for any costumes your kids may be sporting.

On the actual web page of the event, the city lists the following vendors who will be there to sell food:

Loaded Burger
Big C’s Chicago Kitchen
Sweet Jeanius

The Fall Family Festival is a great weekend day event for the family to enjoy as a kick off for Halloween.

2. Trunk or Treat – Johns Creek Police Department

Date: Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018
Time: 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Location: 11445 Johns Creek Pkwy – Police Headquarters
Cost: Free
Event Page: https://www.facebook.com/events/684818341887082/

This is a popular event that we love. Anytime we can bring families together with the women and men who help keep our families safe is something we can get behind. The event is held every year by the Johns Creek Police Department and is a popular one in the community.

The event will have candy, treats, refreshments and activities for kids. Kids are encouraged to dress up in their costumes and will be able to interact with the local police force.

What is a Trunk or Treat?

A trunk or treat is a spin on the traditional versions of trick or treating, where instead of going from house to house, you go from trunk to trunk of a car.

The police force takes fun spin on the trick or treating, by opening the back of their squad cars and let kids go from police car to police car asking for treats or the occasional trick.

3. Johns Creek Arts Festival – City of Johns Creek

Date: Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018 – Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018
Time: 10 a.m (Sat). – 5 p.m. (Sun)
Location: 1930 Bobby Jones Dr. Johns Creek, GA 30097 – Atlanta Athletic Club Heisman Field
Cost: Free
Event Page: http://www.johnscreekcvb.com/event/johns-creek-arts-festival/

Though technically not an actual halloween event, this event is held about a week before Halloween weekend. This time of the year is where kids start getting the opportunity to get creative with arts and crafts. With the Johns Creek Arts Festival, we’ve always thought it was great precursor to all the jack-o-lanterns and decorations kids will be making at school and home.

The arts festival is catered to all ages, so all members of the family will get to enjoy great pieces of art. There will be over 140 different booths that families can walk through and there will be a mainstage for live performances.

The mainstage will be right next to the food court where families can take a break from walking, enjoy some food and watch the different sets of performances. There will also be a kids zone where children will be able to get hands on with the art. After looking at so much art, it will jazz them up and get their creative juices flowing.

There is even a “parent’s rest tent” for those moments during the day where parents just need to take a breather. So though this isn’t directly a Halloween themed event, we feel that this event is so great that we had to put it on the list with it being so close to the actual Halloween weekend.

4. Spooky Mill – Autrey Mill

Date: TBD
Location: 9770 Autrey Mill Road, Johns Creek, GA 30022
Cost: Free
Event Page: http://autreymill.org/programsfamily/

This event is close to our heart as we helped sponsor the event last year. It’s a great event that is a series of stations that are decorated and designed to provide a fun and spooky experience for the kids.

There are bounce houses, craft stations, haunted houses and trails, mad scientists, face painting and more fun for the kids. As of writing this the event on the website has not been updated for 2018, so we are still getting information on whether they will be holding the event again.

Once we hear if the event is going to be held again, we will update the information here.
