Halloween Guide for Families in Alpharetta GA

Halloween candy corn

We just finished writing our Halloween guide for Johns Creek and so we wanted to follow up with a Halloween guide for Alpharetta, GA.

The list we compiled both is centered around Halloween events for children and families, so any events that are catered for adults will be left out. If you’d like to see some events for adults, Awesome Alpharetta has a good list.

1. Sensory Friendly Halloween Party – Aiden’s Wagon

Date: Sat, Oct. 20, 2018
Time: 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Location: 3655 Preston Ridge Road Alpharetta, GA 30005 (Ed Isakson/Alpharetta Family YMCA)

Event Page: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sensory-friendly-halloween-party-tickets-49813723187?aff=ebdssbdestsearch

The Sensory Friendly Halloween Party will be held by Aiden’s Wagon and we just love everything about what they are doing! The whole event is centered around those children and families impacted by Autism. What sensory friendly games do is take into account the auditory, visual and olfactory stimulations and adjust them for those with autism.

2. Trick or Treat At Avalon – Avalon

Date: Sat, Oct. 27, 2018
Time: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

The Avalon shopping center is doing a fun trick or treat morning for patrons. Guests can go to the concierge and pick a Trick or Treat map which will let kids and families go to the different retailers. The event will create a fun spin on the shopping plaza by having participating retailers with a decal and kids will be able to trick or treat with stores. This helps change up the usual going from home to home and lets kids experience something a little different!

3. Kids Spooktacular Trick & Treats – Sur la Table

Date: Sat, Oct. 27, 2018
Time: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Happening only 6 minutes away from Avalon, Sur la Table will be having baking classes focused with the Halloween theme. Scheduled conveniently an hour after the Trick or Treat event at Avalon, the cooking class will be a great way for kids to actually make the sweets that they will get to enjoy.

To be exact, kids will be making:

Spider Web Chocolate Brownies
Mummy Cookies
Claw Cupcakes

There will only be 16 spots available for the class and kids will be able to work in groups of 4, so bring on the soccer team or friends from school. It’s also a great opportunity for kids to make some new friends while learning how to bake these awesome treats.

Note that there are age restrictions for this class. Kids have to be 8 – 12 years old.

4. Halloween Spooktacular at American Girl

For this event, there are 2 dates available.

Date: Sat, Oct. 27, 2018

At the American Girls store they will be providing treats for anyone who comes into the store with a costume. In addition, kids can participate in a fun Halloween Boo Box craft and then have a photo opp after.

If you really want to get the most out of Halloween, the event on the 27th is right after the Sur la Table event, so once your done with the Avalon trick or treat and the cooking class, you can make a detour over to the American Girls store!

The event is for girls ages 8 and up.

5. Haunted Halloween Gingerbread House – Publix Aprons Cooking School

Date: Sat, Oct. 27 & Sun, Oct. 28 2018
Time: 10:00AM – 11:00AM
Location: 4305 State Bridge Rd. Alpharetta, GA 30022
Cost: $60 per Person
Event Page: http://www.publix.com/recipes-planning/aprons-cooking-schools/alpharetta/classes?date=20181022

Publix’s Alpharetta Cooking School is offering another fun spin on Halloween by building gingerbread houses with a haunted theme! This is very cool as gingerbread houses usually are just associated with Christmas. I don’t know how I’ve never thought about doing a gingerbread house with a haunted Halloween theme.
During the class, kids will be able to decorate their own gingerbread house in any ghoulish way they choose. Groups will be in fours for each home, so invite the friends and family to form one big scary team!

Kids must be 4 years or older to participate.

6. Tots: Halloween – Salud! Cooking School Alpharetta

Date: Sat, Oct. 27, 2018
Time: 10:00AM – 11:00AM
Location: 2800 Old Milton Parkway Alpharetta, GA 30009
Cost: $25 per Person
Event Page: https://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/service/salud-cooking-school-4

At the time of writing this, the cooking class is sold out so it looks like there are no spaces available. However, we wanted to leave this here in the event that the class opens up or another one is added.

The class is made for parents and tots to enjoy together. The age group for this class is age 3 to 5. The menu will be

  • Iced Spooky Sugar Cookies
  • Mummy Dogs
  • Jack O’ Lantern Pumpkin Smoothies

It’s a great event that lets the little ones and parents interact together and make foods that both toddlers and parents can enjoy together. We hope that more spaces will open up and be available.

If we hear anything, we’ll update this post.

6. Jack the Ripper – Odyssey Escape Game

While not specifically a Halloween event, escape rooms often do a great job creating spooky experiences. Odyssey Escape Game is hosting some themed escape rooms for the Fall that are perfect for the Halloween season.

The exact escape room themes they are featuring are:

  • Jack the Ripper – Solve the Mystery
  • Prison Break – Walk the Mile

There are other themes, but these 2 in particular are perfect for Halloween themes. At the time of writing this piece, Odyssey Escape Room seems wide open. Both the Jack the Ripper and Prison break have open dates on the weekend before Halloween and the week of.

To check their schedule you can look on the Odyssey Escape Game website.

7. CDC Lockdown – Urban Escape Games

Another escape room option is Urban Escape Games. They have four different themes right now:

  • CDC Lockdown
  • Jewel Heist
  • The Magician’s Room
  • FBI Mafia Investigation

Of these four, CDC Lockdown seems to be the most Halloween appropriate. Urban Escape Games is located in Awesome Alpharetta so very close to many of the other events we’ve listed above.

Urban Escape Games did not have a schedule on their website so we weren’t able to verify if they have any dates available for Halloween weekend or the actual week of.
