Getting Artsy in Johns Creek

It is summertime in Johns Creek! Now that the kids are finally out of school, you’ve got a couple of months for fun filled family days! Even though kids won’t be learning in their regular classrooms over the summer, there are still plenty of opportunities for enriching, cultural experiences right here in Johns Creek. Check out some of these great options for a fun, educational outing in the arts community of Johns Creek!

Johns Creek Arts Center

Your first venture into the artistic side of our awesome city should be the Johns Creek Arts Center! This center provides a space for residents of all ages to take classes in different art forms and techniques. What a great place to learn new skills and let your creative juices flow! They’ve got a lot of really great events on their calendar, and they even offer a variety of summer camps for kids. In addition to the opportunities for learning for residents of all ages, the center also displays work by local artists.

Johns Creek Tunnel

The Johns Creek Tunnel tells the story of our wonderful city.  The Tunnel is unlike any other mural in the Atlanta Metro, wrapping the entire length of the pedestrian underpass the runs beneath Medlock Bridge Rd./SR 141, just south of McGinnis Ferry Rd. The tunnel is a product of collaboration between the Johns Creek Convention and Visitors Bureau, City of Johns Creek, Georgia Department of Transportation, Urban Catalyst Lab, artists Hanif Kureshi and William Massey; and many volunteers from the local arts community.

The design was inspired from an open community discussion of the area’s rich history, as well as the diversity here that we get to enjoy and celebrate today. Overlapping geometric shapes symbolize the geography of Johns Creek’s various community areas, while Kureshi’s signature letterforms represent the many languages spoken by the diverse ethnicity of Johns Creek residents of both the past and present. The artists collaborated to demonstrate a sense of unity in the piece. Bring your family to the tunnel to enjoy a beautiful local art piece with a positive message!
